Carlisle is the county town of Cumbria, with a population of 71,773 at the last census. The early history of Carlisle is notable for its Roman settlement origins, established to serve the forts on Hadrian’s Wall. Carlisle Castle is within easy walking distance of the hotel and houses the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and Border Regiment Museum. The beautiful Cathedral is within striking distance and hosts a fine display of treasures.
